Tender description

The University wishes to procure a Reading List System as described in the Invitation to Tender (ITT) documents. This ITT is being undertaken on behalf of the University's Information Services (IS) Directorate. The Collections team in the Library (part of IS Directorate) manage the provision and maintenance of reading list software. The University operates a Resource List Policy. All academics are required to submit resource lists using EARL (the current system in place). The key points of the Resource List Policy are: All lists should be available online, using the EARL resource list system, which is embedded in the VLE. Resource lists should be structured: content should take account of the mode of attendance of students, method of delivery and anticipated use of resources. Where possible lists should indicate categories eg essential, further or background reading. As much online material should be used as possible, particularly for large student cohorts. Make the best use of ebooks, ejournals and scanned chapters/articles. The Library's Electronic Texts Service provide scans compliant with UK Copyright Law. Module convenors are responsible for maintaining and updating lists in good time: the Library will ensure material is available if made aware of what is needed and by when. To achieve the key points above, the University requires an online and interactive tool which sits within the VLE and provides students with direct links to recommended readings and online resources.
