Tender description
First Wessex would like to partner with the successful tenderer/s to ensure that our legislative compliance and management systems are robust and fit for purpose, it is intended to apply ‘best practice’ principles from across the waste and recycling industry. These principles should ensure that we effectively manage the cost of waste handling as well as improving our environmental performance and identifying any further opportunities that may arise from our waste material. The tender has five high level objectives: 1. Ensure that First Wessex is compliant with all relevant waste legislation across all areas of its operation 2. Consider the environmental implications of our waste, using the Waste Hierarchy as our guiding principle. 3. Control our disposal costs and secure financial savings by segregating waste where feasible, minimising the number and distance of journeys made by operatives to dispose of waste they have produced, and procuring suitable waste contracts 4. Devise a clear, straightforward waste management system which is easy for all staff to understand and which will enable us to better monitor our waste management performance 5. Ensure that there is a consistency in how waste is handled across the business 6. Ensure high level management reporting for our Waste data - Individual measures will be agreed upon commencement of the new contract(s). But will include: • Waste diverted from landfill (%) • Waste sent to landfill (%) • Recycled waste (not including waste sent for incineration) (%) • Tonnage by waste type • Rejected consigned loads First Wessex would expect the successful provider(s) to visit each depot within their successful lot to give advice as well as speaking with our trades-staff in their respective areas to offer advice and see where their additional value added services could be utilised. Keywords: Rubbish, Waste, Skip, refuse
