Tender description
The MEFS, service area of the Marine Institute, carry out a range of seafood safety and environmental monitoring programmes. Within MEFS, the Marine Chemistry team is charged with the responsibility of monitoring for environmental contaminants including trace metals and persistent organic pollutants. This monitoring is required to fulfil obligations under National and EU legislation including food legislation (Commission Regulation (EC) no. 629/2008 setting maximum levels for certain contaminants in foodstuffs), Water Framework Directive (Directive 2000/60/EC), Shellfish Waters Directive (Council Directive 2006/113/EC on the quality required of shellfish waters) and Residues Directive (EC Directive 96/23). This equipment will primarily be used to carry out analyses in accordance with the legislation above. At present a requirement exists for a fully integrated Gel Permeation/Size exclusion chromatography (GPC/SEC) system for the Marine Institute in Rinville, Oranmore, Co. Galway.
