Acoustic Engineering Services and Technical Expertise

Tender description

The Marine Institute, a semi State body, wishes to invite tenders under an open procedure with the objective of putting a Single Supplier Framework Agreement in place for the supply of acoustic engineering services for the acoustic array and acoustic monitoring buoy Research Project. This agreement is subject to 2 year maximum, starting in January 2016. Oceanographic Services is collaborating with Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland on the implementation of the Offshore Renewable Energy Development Plan. A fundamental project in support of the OREDP is the multi-year marine Acoustic Monitoring Research Project. Noise emissions from ocean energy devices have not been objectively assessed for either environmental impact or improved design. Very little is known regarding noise emissions and virtually no knowledge exists on particle velocity (the mechanism by which marine species sense acoustic emissions, e.g. the lateral line sensors of a fish). The project team are developing an acoustic monitoring system for deployment initially at the ¼ scale ocean energy test site in Galway Bay. A subsea fibre-optic and power cable has been installed at the site and is now fully operational. The acoustic array technology developed by the Marine Institute and partners since 2012 will be integrated into this cable in 2016. OSIS have a requirement for the services of an acoustic engineer to give technical direction and undertake relevant engineering tasks for the acoustic project. The engineer will advise on all technical aspects of the project. The Marine Institute expects that approximately 100 days will be drawn down over a period of 2 years.
