Tender description

Network Rail requires an automated system to take gauge measurements at a minimum of 10 prescribed points through an S&C unit. It must additionally be capable of continuous measurement of both the stock and switch rail profiles within the S&C unit and be able to identify any exceedances of predetermined limits in the rails' profiles. The system must be self-propelled with the following characteristics: — transportable in a transit size van or flat-bed vehicle, — able to be lifted by 2 people, — operable by a maximum of 2 people, — able to operate in all weathers and in a temperature range of -10 to +40 degrees centigrade, — be compatible with 1435mm and 1432mm gauge S&C units, — be capable of measuring flat bottom and bull head rail sections, — be capable of measuring inclined and vertical S&C units. It must also be capable of measuring crossing profiles, including the nose, wing rails, vee rails and check rails, and comparing these against previous measurements to calculate wear. Network Rail is seeking to understand what options exist that meet its requirements. Network Rail wishes to engage with suppliers who have a product that either meets all these requirements, or could meet them with minimal adaptation, in order to finalise the specification.
