Tender description

The Council is required to meet its statutory obligations to provide education for young people who are unable to attend mainstream school due to social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and also those with medical needs. Some of these pupils will have a statement of Special Educational Needs. In order to meet our statutory obligations for these children and young people we wish to procure Alternative Education places to start in September 2011. Most of these young people have complex needs that require Educational Providers to work closely with other agencies, schools and stakeholders as well as parents/carers and the young people themselves. The aims of the provision are to: - • Provide a tailored educational programme for learners to include assessment, learning (formal and informal) and strategies to re-engage them in education in a positive way, in preparation for transition to either a Pupil Referral Unit, specialist provision or a return to mainstream education; • Provide a range of learning opportunities in different environments through different pathways appropriately accredited, within a structured programme of learning providing appropriate levels of learner support; • Provide appropriate individualised programmes to meet learners’ special educational needs; • Provide tailored educational arrangements that are sensitive to learners' needs and aspirations and support their successful transition into adult life and, in particular, the take up of further education, training or employment on reaching statutory school leaving age; • All programmes will be required to increase motivation, self esteem, and improve basic, life and social skills to better prepare learners for making positive choices.
