Tender description

The purpose of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) is to confer protection on species and habitats of conservation importance through the regulation or prohibition of activities that may impact those protected species or habitat. Fishing is recognised to be one of the most significant sectoral activities that impacts marine species and habitats. The Fishing in European Marine Sites Project was brought about to ensure that fishing activities that had the potential to damage Natura 2000 sites were appropriately managed. Management measures have been and continue to be introduced as both in Natura 2000 sites and Marine Conservation Zones (MCZs) in English waters designated designated under the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009 .
