Celebrating the Cracker Packers - Provision of a work of public art at Caldewgate, Carlisle

Carlisle City Council invites proposals for a new work of public art at a gateway site, from artists and designers with a demonstrable track record of achievement in the creation of art in the public realm. This commission is offered as a concluding element in a public realm improvements scheme for the Caldewgate area of the city. The commissioners, in developing this new work, are keen to reflect and celebrate a key element of Carlisle’s distinctive social and industrial history. In view of the site is the famous biscuit factory which for some years has carried the group name McVities, but is still widely known locally as Carr’s. Many local families retain connections with the past and present workforce of the factory. We seek to commission a new work that will honour and celebrate that workforce. Keywords: Art, Public
