Tender description
MK Gallery is a contemporary art gallery, located in Milton Keynes at the end of Midsummer Boulevard and at the edge of Campbell Park. Operating with no permanent collection, it exhibits and commissions work from UK based and international artists. The existing gallery building was completed in 1999 and consists of two interconnected squares in plan that accommodate a sequence of three galleries, a small bookshop and reception, and limited back of house accommodation. The gallery is constructed in steel frame within external blockwork cavity walls. The intention is to construct new galleries, an education space, workshop and cafe, together with a 150 seat auditorium capable of hosting live events and cinema screenings. The existing building will be refurbished with new plant for mechanical and electrical services, and a new roof covering. The new building is circa 1 290 m² GIA and the existing building is circa 835 m² GIA. MK Gallery intend to proceed with a single stage procurement to appoint a main contractor to deliver the refurbishment and extension of their premises at 900 Midsummer Boulevard, Central Milton Keynes under a JCT 2016 Design & Build Contract. Following the pre-qualification stage MK Gallery intends to invite between 3 and 5 contractors who have most demonstrated that they are capable of fulfilling the various elements of the contract to submit tenders. The gallery intends to novate the following members of its current design team to the appointed contractor: — Architect & Lead Designer — 6a Architects. — Structural Engineer — Momentum Structural Engineering. Gleeds is appointed as Cost Consultant, and Jackson Coles LLP is appointed as Project Manager and Employer's Agent. Max Fordham LLP are appointed as M&E, Drainage and Acoustic Engineer and Charcoalblue LLP are appointed as Theatre/Auditorium Designer. The project was previously advertised and tendered based upon a Traditional Two Stage procurement route. This did not result in a satisfactory outcome and it was decided to complete the design sufficient for a Design and Build procurement route, by which time planning issues would have progressed to an appropriate stage and funding secured. Full details, including information as to the needs and requirements, are detailed within the procurement documents.
