Tender description

Gainsborough's House seeks to appoint an Architect for a capital project to create a vibrant, innovative national centre at Gainsborough's House — A Grade-1 listed building situated within a conservation area of the historic market town of Sudbury [Suffolk], and the birthplace and childhood home of the artist, Thomas Gainsborough (1727–1788). The appointment will include design lead; contract administrator; and principal designer services. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced Architects who wish to be considered for inclusion on a select list of tenderers to provide the highest standards of design, conservation and presentation. The scope of the capital project for which Architectural services are required covers: the provision of a new extension to Gainsborough's House to provide significantly more exhibition, display and learning space; major improvements of visitor facilities through a developed shop, new entrance and the creation of a café; and the adaptation and redisplay of Gainsborough's House to interpret, entertain and inspire around the life of the artist Thomas Gainsborough.
