Tender description

In order to maintain a high level of access to as many of the collections as possible, the library is now seeking to appoint external suppliers skilled in the conservation treatments of library collections. Suppliers must be able to offer and maintain a high-quality, cost-effective service specifically for binding (contract ref.000654). This contract is relevant to the Library's London site unless otherwise indicated. The requirements of this contract are set below Binding must be carried out on the supplier’s own premises  Treatments may not be contracted out to a third party Contractor’s own staff must undertake transportation of collection material. A third party couriers may not be used Suppliers must be able to demonstrate at the that they have experience in the safe handling and storage of heritage collection materials in a range of formats and conditions Treatments must be carried out with high professional skills This contract includes and suppliers must demonstrate experience / skills in; The binding and rebinding of books, periodicals and similar items in full buckram cased-in split board style The binding of books, periodicals and similar items in full buckram cased The provision of facsimile binding of items in full buckram cased The binding of Electoral Registers, books and periodicals in quarter cloth temporary binding style The binding of newspapers and periodicals. The provision of pamphlet style binding The contract is a non-exclusive ad hoc call off agreement and will be for an initial period of twelve months, commencing 1st April 2017, and subject to extension on an annual basis at the sole discretion of the British Library for a further period of up to three additional years.
