Tender description

The Universities of Leeds and Cambridge are issuing a joint tender for equipment to support advanced materials research funded by the Royce Institute. This tenderfor growth systemssplit into separateLOT’s as detailed below. LOT1; The University of Leeds is inviting tenders for the supply of a multi-chamber growth system capable of growing world class materials as varied as PbTe, Y3Fe5O12, BiSbTeSe, C60 and BiFeO3. The system will comprise a number of UHV growth chambers including techniques such as MBE, PVD, PLD, and evaporation, interconnected by an UHV transfer chamber. The system will be used to develop these materials for their intrinsic interest as topological materials, ferroics, magnetic insulators for example, but also they will be grown as layered combinations to exploit new functionality. We are interested to hear from suppliers who can supply the entire system or some sub-section of the system or act as a consolidator to organise a number of suppliers to build the system. LOT 2; The University of Cambridge is inviting tenders for the supply of a multi-chamber deposition system capable of growing world class topological insulator material, within the Bi-Sb-Te material system. It is envisaged that the system will comprise of two separate UHV MBE chambers interconnected by a UHV buffer system for sample storage and sample outgassing. Connected to the buffer will be a fast entry loadlock. The first UHV deposition system is envisaged to be only for Te-containing topological insulators of the Bi-Sb-Te system, with some elements for alloying and doping. The second UHV system is envisaged to be primarily for UHV metals deposition of low vapour pressure materials, such as Nb. Operationally and strategically it would be advantageous if the two deposition systems were identical and both resistant to corrosive elements, i.e. Sb and Te, but vendors are encouraged to consider two chambers of different size (the metals deposition system being the smaller of the two) if doing so yields an appreciable cost saving. This multi-chamber system will reside within the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge.
