Kilcredaun Coastal Protection Repair Works

Tender description

The coastal protection structures at Kilcredaun, Carrigaholt on the Shannon Estuary stretch for some 600m from the beach access at the Irish College northwards into high ground. The structures protect the area behind from flooding. The wall consists of sections of varying construction built at different times. It comprises of concrete bound masonry and mass concrete construction. In January/February 2014 flooding and storms caused damage to a 130m section of the coastal seawall. This section of damaged seawall has been temporarily replaced (emergency repairs) with a rock armour revetment. The temporary structure is showing evidence of damage and Clare County Council now wishes to replace the temporary protection structure with a permanent seawall. In addition Clare County Council is also intending to refurbish further sections of the seawall being undermined by wave overtopping. The total length of replacement works is 130m.
