Refuse and waste related services

Tender description

The Council currently has a conventional waste collection, recycling, and street cleansing service with a contract value of c. 2 200 000 GBP p.a. The council wishes to explore proposals from prospective bidders that supports the council's budget requirements and service standards and introduces a new and innovative approach to the service. Interested contractors are invited in the first instance to e-mail Victoria Clarke, vclarke@melton.gov.uk for a data sheet which outlines the scope of the current service. Summary data can be found in II.2.4) below. Responses are requested by 4.11.2016. Summary data: Refuse Collections from 22 800 houses (up by 250/year during contract) across approximately 48 000 hectares. Approx. tonnages collected: Recycling 5.8t, green 3.8t, landfill 10.6t. Including: Assisted collections (650), difficult access (450), communal sites (27), litter/dog bins (665), sharps (500 quarterly, 25 weekly). Schedule 2 clients (40). Recycling sites (60). Cleansing: Roads 590 km, (62 % town, 25 % villages, 13 % main roads), plus 75 000 open space. And 15 play areas. Green waste service is currently a separate commercial arrangement between householders and the incumbent contractor.
