(NU/1210) Supply of an 80kWe RATED Biogas CHP (Combined Heat and Power) Unit

Tender description

An anaerobic digester (AD) was installed at the Newcastle University site at Cockle Park Farm, Morpeth in 2010. This AD requires a 3-phase supply, and the farm only had 1-phase, so it was run off a 30kW generator. This was insufficient to operate the motors required for solid feedstock (peak demand 72kW). A back-to-back converter rated at 100kW was installed in 2015, enabling the AD to operate with solid feedstock, producing up to 1100 cubic metres of biogas per day. To utilise this biogas effectively, a combined heat and power unit (CHP) is now required, rated at 80kWe (3 phase), and installed adjacent to the AD plant. This will be connected electrically to the back-to-back converter, and thermally to the AD itself and to a hot water network (to be constructed separately). The scope of this contract is for the construction, delivery, installation and commissioning of a containerised CHP unit rated at 80 kWe, together with specified ancillary equipment including metering and gas pre-treatment, as detailed in the Invitation to Tender document.
