The new biomedical sciences building houses different group with a broad range of interest in different area of biology including cancer research. Increasing evidence suggests that cancer is also a disease of the surrounding microenvironment thus mimicking this microenvironment as close as possible will be of a great importance in finding better options to treat cancer. One of the numerous aspects of the microenvironment is represented by the physiological concentration of Oxygen which impact of the biology of cancer. The Hypoxia chamber will allow us to resemble the concentration of Oxygen in the tumor microenvironment to better study the biology of cancer and develop possible new treatments. Indeed, the Hypoxia chamber is essentially an incubator for cell culture, however it allows to modify the concentration of oxygen in the environment using nitrogen. The Hypoxia chamber is also equipped with CO2, humidity and temperature control so that all the relevant parameter can be controlled and adjusted. This equipment will be of a great value for all the cancer researcher in the Biomedical Building.
