Tender description

The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) is an Agency of the Scottish Government (Justice Department) and is responsible for the management of Her Majesty's Prisons and Young Offenders Institutions in Scotland. There are currently 13 public prisons in Scotland, an Edinburgh based Headquarters, an SPS College, and a Central Store facility. SPS currently manages a daily population of approximately 7 500 prisoners in the publically operated prison estate. There are also 2 privately operated prisons (HMP Kilmarnock and HMP Addiewell). Further background information is available from the SPS website: www.sps.gov.uk SPS intends to award a Contract for a 3 year term with options to extend by up to a further 4 years. This will enable the supply and provision of a range of miscellaneous standard janitorial supplies, including: Chemical goods such as bactericidal detergent and hard surface cleaner; paper goods such as toilet tissue and disposable hand wipes; janitorial hardware such as dustpan and mops; bio-hazard products such as sharps containment and mattress disposal kit; and laundry detergent to any SPS locations that require such goods. The SPS expects the supplier to offer a viable range of value for money products that meets the product description (provided in Annex 1 of Schedule B). Historic SPS expenditure on janitorial supplies has been approximately 1 500 000 GBP per annum (approximately 85 % on core items and 15 % on non-core items). The SPS will not guarantee annual volumes for individual items throughout its sites. Similarly there will be no guarantee of minimum order quantities or values.
