Value of Diplomacy Report

This project will seek to answer the question – “how to measure the value of diplomacy?” with a view to improve our understanding of the contribution diplomacy can make to the UK. We are interested in the modern concept of diplomacy, which goes beyond the classic definition based on dialogue and interaction between states. The ultimate aim is to place a measured value on the UK’s diplomatic efforts, but the first phase of the project will summarize key themes, conclusions and methodologies from the existing literature on the value of diplomacy. It will make a series of recommendations for further work on how to estimate Government and FCO contributions to global diplomacy, and measure its impact on our daily lives.
