Tender description
The purpose of the project is to ensure that University of Exeter STEM education infrastructure in Cornwall can meet the demands of both the recent and proposed growth in student numbers and the requirements of research-led and industry-facing science education. In essence, it will enable the research model of multidisciplinary science to be realised in education and attract increased student recruitment. The Renewable Energy Engineering Facility is a facility where students can experience directly how the knowledge gained in lectures or the laboratory is applied to a number of clean energy technologies in a real-world facility. Elements of the facility may also be shared with other campus users. This new flagship facility will enable expansion of University of Exeter’s capacity at the Penryn Campus for individual and small group research projects and industrial networking and collab-oration. Users will the complete Renewable Energy teaching programmes including BSc Re-newable Energy and BEng/MEng Energy Engineering. The project has a maximum net construction value of £1.0m inclusive of Main Contractors OH&P and Preliminiaries.. The Building will achieve BREEAM excellent and incorporate best practice in design, maximising flexibility in the short term whilst providing adaptability in the long term, totalling a minimum of 267m2 GIFA. Currently the client’s consultancy team (Atkins/Faithful+Gould) have completed the design to the end of RIBA Stage 3 and will be retained by the client to act as Employers Agent, QS and Technical Advisors. The client has appointed other consultants to assist in the design notably MACH Acoustics (Acousticians) and Ecofirst (BREEAM assessors). Whilst MACH Acoustics will be retained by the client throughout the project it is now likely that Ecofirst commision will end at this stage and it will be for the contractor to appoint a BREEAM assessor to complete the process for RIBA Stage 4 through to completion. The successful contractor will be required to work col-laboratively with the client team to achieve the clients requirements. Further information about the University’s requirements can be found at Schedule 2: including the specification
