Tender description

Birmingham Airport is seeking proposals for the design and installation of a new district heating and cooling piped network to interlink the existing heating and cooling plant to improve the Airport's operational resilience. The pipe network shall be suitably designed to provide resilience to avoid the loss of heating should a single section of flow and return pipework be damaged. The system shall be hydraulically separated as suitable points with the use of plate heat exchangers to ease system maintenance and minimise downtime. The design and installation of a new BMS installation to allow the interface with the controls of the existing cooling and heating plant, the BMS shall monitor and operate valve arrangements to allow the automatic switching of the system to suit area demands. In addition to connecting to the existing systems, new connections shall be provided externally to the South Terminal Energy Centre to allow connection to a remote energy source. To allow installation of pipework to progress without causing disruption to the operation of the terminal buildings a preliminary route has been identified on the roof. Where pipes are routed externally trace heating shall be installed to reduce the risk of freezing. Pipework shall be installed in both ‘Landside’ and ‘Airside’ areas.
