Tender description

The contract is for a new Integrated Health Improvement and Behaviour Change Service for Southampton. The service will replace a number of previously commissioned services including Smoking Cessation, Health Trainer, and Health Promotion Services. The service will play a key role in supporting health improvement and behaviour change across Southampton's health and care system and delivery of Southampton's Health and Well-being Strategy. The Service Provider is expected to work closely with Southampton City Council's Public Health Team to provide health improvement leadership and expertise, and advocate public health principles and action to improve health and well-being and reduce health inequalities across the city. The new service will provide evidence based health improvement and behaviour change interventions that help tackle a range of behaviours including ‘increasing risk’ or ‘higher risk’ alcohol consumption; poor diet and eating patterns which lead to overweight and obesity; lack of physical activity; and smoking. The Service Provider will take a wellness approach that goes beyond looking at single lifestyle issues and instead aims to take a whole-person, whole-family and community approach to improving health. Outcomes will thus be achieved through individual behaviour change and interventions that build community and workforce capacity for health, well-being and resilience.
