Tender description

Highly accurate gas composition analysis is a crucial component of the evidence generated during UK RAF CAM (United Kingdom Royal Air Force Centre of Aviation Medicine) trials to support Release to Service of aircrew life support life support equipment including aircraft oxygen systems (Defence Standard 00-970 Part 13 refers). Accurate gas composition analysis during human system and equipment trials provides essential safety monitoring of participants (to prevent hypoxia). Human altitude trials cannot receive MoD (UK Ministry of Defence) Research Ethics Committee approval without adequate oxygenation monitoring, and thus could not be conducted. As an interim measure, the mass spectrometers are also being used to provide ambient gas concentration monitoring without which, Hypobaric Chamber Runs for aircrew training and trials would be deemed too high a risk. This requirement will be competed under a competitive process using restricted procedure.
