Tender description

This proposal is led by the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) in collaboration with the University of Cambridge Biochemistry Department (UCam). Both organisations engage in primary biological research, with the focus of this proposal on biological adaptations of Antarctic marine invertebrates to life below 0°C and proteomic identification of cold adapted enzymes. Objectives The objectives of this market research is to better understand: 1) The economic and biotechnological demand for cold-adapted digestive enzymes. 2) The families of enzymes (e.g. lipases and proteases) which, in a biotechnology context are of most commercial interest. 3) The requirements to develop and test these enzymes to ensure that they are sufficiently mature to enable adoption by commercial enterprises. 4) Commercial enterprises interested in developing novel low-temperature natural enzyme systems for marine biotech. 5) Other potential markets and R&D that may indirectly benefit from this particular enzyme identification, and approximate their market sizes. These markets may or may not be in the biotechnology field or biopharma sector.
