7364 Historic Environment Projects and Activities within Marine Conservation Zones

Tender description

Historic England wishes to commission a projectwhoes aims are to provide an assessment of how archaeological activities (e.g. research) and other activities directed at the historic environment (e.g. recreational use of shipwreck diver trails) which are conducted within Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) might provide identifiable social and economic benefits compatible with the objectives and management of MPAs. The project will direct specific attention at Marine Conservation Zones, as designated under the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009. The project will help inform Historic England about how we, and others in the sector, can support action in a way that contributes to research, monitoring and other social or cultural benefits compatible with Marine Conservation Zone objectives and associated management measures. This project is necessary given the specific attention now directed at Marine Conservation Zones by government and public agencies to make sure such measures are supported by marine stakeholders with diverse interests and priorities
