NHS National Services Scotland is exploring the options for the possible procurement of an electronic emergency referral solution. The objective of this exercise is to obtain up-to-date information and feedback from the market in order to: 1 understand market capabilities and solutions in relation to the functionality required; and 2 provide NHS National Services Scotland with indicative costs associated with the implementation and ongoing support of a suitable solution. Patients admitted to hospital often have multiple symptoms, injuries and conditions. In these situations it will often require a number of Clinical Specialists to be involved in the care. Involvement might mean taking over the care of the patient (transfer into another hospital or specialist unit) or providing advice to the clinician who is responsible for the patients care at that time. All hospitals and specialties across Scotland should have a means of making an electronic referral and recording clinical dialogue in situations where there is a need to share the care of a patient or support the care of the patient by giving specialist advice. A generic solution is required to support use across all clinical specialties.
