Tender description

Supply to the University of Sheffield's Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre's Castings Group at Catliffe in Rotherham of an Ultra High Quality Aluminium Melting Furnace. The furnace should ideally have the following features: — Melting and holding shall be performed in separate chambers. — Melting shall ideally be melted in a chute/flue, so that the liquid metal then runs onto a hearth where it can flow gently into a holding chamber. — The transfer of the liquid metal shall be designed in such a way that the liquid metal does not ‘fall’ any great distance, thus creating turbulence and oxide. — All aspects of the furnace shall minimise both the creation and retention of oxide within the holding chamber. — The furnace should have the capability of melting small batches of Aluminium, ideally a minimum batch size around 100 kg, but larger capacities may also be considered. This process is notice of a potential procurement exercise on behalf of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre's Castings Group who may wish to invite bids for the supply of Ultra-high quality Aluminium melting furnace. This is not a commitment to purchase and the University does not require a response to this Prior Information Notice. The anticipated date of Publication of a contract notice is week commencing 17.10.2016 and the time-scale for market responses may be reduced.
