Tender description

ECMWF as the Entrusted Entity for implementing the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) is preparing an Invitation to Tender (ITT) for production of regional climate reanalyses. The objective is to develop high-resolution estimates of Essential Climate Variables (ECVs) for limited-area domains of special interest to European users of climate services, in order to complement the global information provided by other reanalysis products such as ERA5, which is currently in production at ECMWF. This ITT will address production of separate reanalyses for the European and Arctic domains by means of data assimilation in dynamical models. The scope of contracts awarded may include: selection and preparation of input data; reanalysis production and archiving of output fields; performance monitoring and assessment of product quality; data services and user support; maintenance and technical development of production systems. Scientific requirements will include: maximum use of high-quality observations; physical and temporal consistency of ECV products; provision of meaningful uncertainty estimates. The ITT will provide additional technical requirements on the length of record, spatial domains and resolution, frequency and timeliness of product updates. Contract duration is 48 months. Up to 2 contracts may be awarded, 1 for each geographical domain.
