Red Cell Immuno-haematology (RCI) is a specialist function within the Patient Services Directorate of National Health Service Blood and Transplant (NHSBT). The RCI reference laboratories provide a service to quantify the levels of allo-immune and prophylactic anti-D and allo-immune anti-c in patient and other samples. Determination of the levels of these antibodies is a major requirement for the prevention and treatment of Haemolytic Disease of the Fetus and Newborn (HDFN). RCI reports quantification results on pregnant women to hospital clinicians who use them to help determine the appropriate course of actions to take for individual pregnancies. NHSBT are seeking to procure four (4) continuous flow analysers for quantification of anti-D and anti-c antibodies in its (RCI) laboratories. These systems are required to use the chemistry currently in use and utilise reagents supplied by NHSBT. The systems are required as a minimum to match the current system in terms of capacity, cost effectiveness and quality and consistency of results which must be expressed in IU/mL (International units/mL). NHSBT intends to award a five (5) year contract with option to extend for a further 2 periods of 12-months.
