Tender description

There is a requirement for different equipment types of ‘Yellow Plant’ to help maintain the Crossrail infrastructure. The Engineering Trains (Units) are vital to RfL's ability to operate a safe, reliable service on the new Crossrail line. The performance specification for the Units is deliberately engineered to encourage Bidders to provide a ‘flexible’ solution' for this procurement. The Units will be bespoke to Rfl/Crossrail and will have to satisfy Crossrail-specific Technical Requirements Specification (TRS). The Units shall be required to transit on both the Central Section of Crossrail lines and Network Rail, which has produced some very specific requirements unique to the Crossrail infrastructure. As such, the unit will need to meet the approvals for both NR and Crossrail standards. The key features required of the Units can be summarised as: Design and construction compliant to all applicable UK and European laws and standards for operation on TfL and the UK national rail network; Fitment of TfL signalling systems as well as national systems to permit transit to work sites during traffic hours; the ability to work within a tunnel environment with constraints on access and ventilation capability to undertake various maintenance tasks including but not limited to: a) replacement of track components; b) Intrusive inspection and replacement of overhead electrification components; c) Inspection and cleaning of tunnel drainage systems; d) Transportation of staff and provision of welfare facilities.
