Tender description

The purpose of the Works is to demolish and remove all asbestos at the former Department of Education 2 office building located on the Mowden Hall site in Darlington. The Works include the following: Enabling Works Establishment, maintenance and removal upon completion of the contractor's compound, offices, welfare facilities and storage areas; Erection of security fencing, timber hoardings, screening, scaffolding, protection and gated access’s; Erection and inspection of tree protection fencing; Design and installation of protection measures for former Mowden Hall garden wall located in south-west corner of the site. Site Clearance Felling or pruning of trees required to allow Demolition works to take place. To be undertaken on trees not covered by the existing Tree Preservation Order. Removal of anti-vandal window shutters; Removal and storage of CCTV cameras. (To remain in the HCA ownership and stored on site); Removal of all asbestos Removal and disposal of all asbestos materials; Temporary Works All temporary works to provide the Works, including but not limited to the following: Drainage, utilities, propping, scaffolding, fencing, footway closures, signage etc; Demolition and Salvage Soft strip, demolition and salvage all elements and materials of the buildings and structures within the red line boundary identified on Drawing 60508553-DEMO-03 and DEMO-04; Clear the site of all demolition material and tidied upon completion, such that the finished surface levels match the existing adjacent undisturbed ground; Remove and dispose of all air conditioning units; Backfill of all basements and cellars with site won crushed inert material in accordance with specification requirements; Remove all ground bearing and supported floor slabs and foundations up to a 1.0m in depth; Remove all basement floor slabs, foundations and walls up to 1.0m depth; Removal of all services and utilities located within the building footprints up to 1.0m depth; Remove all hardstanding and car parks areas; Remove all street lighting columns, feeder pillars and cables. Crushing Retain and crush all site won inert material to 6F2 specification in accordance with the SHW; 6F2 material to be used to fill basements and generally level the site; Subject to prior agreement with the Project Manager, excess 6F2 material is to be used to raise levels locally and/or stockpiled on site. Materials Management The re-use of excavated materials and any site-won materials are subject to the contractor clearly demonstrating that the materials are suitable for re-use and conform to the appropriate WRAP quality protocol. Where site-won and excavated materials are deemed suitable for re-use on site, any placement will be governed by a site specific Materials Management Plan that will be prepared by the Contractor in accordance with the Definition of Waste: Development Industry Code of Practice and the Materials Management Template by CL:AIRE.
