Biomass Woodfuel. The State Hospital is Scotland's only high security hospital. It provides assessment, treatment and care in conditions of special security for individuals with mental disorder who, because of their dangerous, violent or criminal propensities, cannot be cared for in any other setting. Employing around 700 staff, the hospital is a national resource for Scotland and Northern Ireland and is a special health board. The Hospital went through re-development ending in September 2011 with a successful project completed on time and in budget. The Hospital is situated in rural South Lanarkshire and sits on a 80 acre site with 13 buildings 5 of which house our patient living and activity space. The facility strives to be forward thinking not only in its clinical arena but in its environment impact. The hospitals hot water and heating systems, are provided mainly by the 840 kW Biomass Binder Boiler, with back up support offered by oil and LPG boiler systems. The hospital also has a range of energy and efficient mechanisms to reduce the impact it has on the environment. These include Rain Water Harvesting, Energy efficient lighting and a will and desire from a strong sustainability group to reducing and improving energy efficiency and the environmental impact we have. The Hospital's use of Biomass Woodfuel is supplied to the hospital on an heat output bases. This means that the wood supplied as per our requirement and specification is only to ensure boiler efficiency. The hospitals payment relates to the output though the Heat Meter. This meter formulates the source of measurement and bases for payment.
