Tender description

Road Safety Scotland is part of the Scottish Government's national transport agency, Transport Scotland, and has a remit to develop road safety education materials for educational settings throughout Scotland. Part of this remit has been to use theatre in education as a method of providing road safety education to different sectors of the community, but predominantly school children, since 1990. The Scottish Government requires a suitably competent and experienced theatre company to work with Road Safety Scotland and its officers to organise and deliver an annual series of road safety plays to primary and secondary schoolchildren and to cross-generational community audiences. The four plays (which have already been written) last around 1 hour and explore road safety issues affecting various age groups. This programme is part of a series of activities which involve different ways of presenting the road safety message. As well as the delivery of the set plays, actors will be involved in carrying out workshop activities on the day. The contractor will organise and deliver a full annual Scotland-wide programme, consisting of three separate tours, co-ordinating dates and arrangements with local venues and schools to meet their individual requirements. This will be done in consultation with the Road Safety Scotland team, and also in liaison with Road Safety Teams in some Local Authorities across Scotland. For areas with no Road Safety Teams, direct liaison with schools is necessary.
