Humber Estuary Lamprey Mapping Project

Tender description

This project will gather the evidence available on river and sea lamprey within the Yorkshire river catchments. It is envisaged that a ‘desk-based’ study will help draw together what the Authority knows about the two species and what evidence gaps exist. This evidence, alongside river walks and surveys will inform the mapping of key habitats, spawning sites and potential impact areas within the catchment. Aims The aim of this study is to gather the evidence available on the status of sea and river lamprey and build on this with evidence gaps. This evidence will be used to produce maps of the catchments which will include the current spawning areas used, suitable and potential spawning habitats and locations and barriers to migration. Objectives The primary objectives of the contract are: 1. Gather together in one place the available evidence within the catchment for river and sea lamprey. 2. Highlight evidence gaps where future or repeated studies are needed. 3. Record where and how lamprey use the river catchments currently and also highlight potential areas that could be used in the future (ie. upstream of barriers).
