Straw island Demolition and Storm Damage Repairs

Tender description

The lighthouse on Straw Island is built on a small sandy island at the eastern entrance to Killeany Bay approaching Inishmore, which is the largest of the Aran Islands. The site location coordinates are 53°07.065' North 09°37.840' West. The lighthouse, an important Aid to Navigation (AtoN), suffered significant structural damage, as a result of heavy storms in early 2014, mainly to the equipment and engine room building and surrounding sea walls. All AtoN systems have since been relocated to an adjoining ‘mess room’ building. CIL would like to engage a suitably qualified contractor to demolish the damaged building in its entirety, to carry out structural repairs to the remaining lighthouse compound buildings and sea walls, to remove debris and redundant equipment from the island and to provide all necessary logistical support. All inert concrete and masonry rubble from the demolished building and damaged section of walls should remain on site as described in Section 2.5 CIL intend to award a single fixed-price lump sum contract for the works in their entirety. The works must be completed by the 30th September 2015. Tenderers must provide details of any works which they intend to sub-contract as part of the tender process.
