Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has identified and number of issues related to different activities in the clinical environment. Solving these issues is important for the Trust in its ongoing duty to improve patient experience, efficiencies and reduce running costs. The Trust believes the current products and services available in the market either don't recognise or don't address the problem properly. The Trust wants to raise awareness of these issues among the supply chain and indicate its intention to procure workable solutions that meet its requirements. The Trust then wants to challenge different sections of the supply chain to address 1 or more of these challenges, as these unmet needs are recognised to be applicable to all NHS organisations: 6. Male shaving and facial care Disposable razors are used routinely by nursing staff in the NHS and are used to shave male patients as part of a daily care routine and remove hair when necessary to prepare patients for operations and other procedures. Often patients can present unkempt due to ill health and may have a number of days stubble which is particularly challenging. The quality of the razors supplied is such that as many as 3 disposable razors are needed to shave 1 male patient. Moreover, the quality of the shave is poor, leaving many patients with razor burns, cuts and nicks. Unmet need: Cost effective shaving solution for the NHS that deliver a safe, hygienic and good quality shave. It should be able to lubricate the skin at the same time and be ergonomically designed so that assisted shaves are easier to complete. A cream or lotion that may dissolve or soften the initial troublesome stubble. It needs to be environmentally sustainable through the product life cycle.
