Tender description
The University is seeking to appoint an architect-led team to undertake the master planning of a number of important sites on the Hills Road side of Cambridge Biomedical Campus. It is intended that this master planning study will establish a framework within which the University can subsequently develop world-class accommodation for the School of Clinical Medicine, including teaching, research and administration facilities. It is the aspiration that among the research accommodation will be new facilities for the University's Institute of Public Health and also a state-of-the-art neuro-sciences hub. In formulating principles for development, the masterplan would embrace the following objectives: — Providing a high-quality environment for researchers, students, patients and visitors, with new amenities and better public realm. — Improving the arrival experience for staff, patients and visitors, taking into account travel and transport requirements, access and circulation (a number of the sites are at the main entrance to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus from Hills Road). — Enhance connectivity on the campus generally, and in particular between University activities, though also with an eye to establishing better interfaces between University research on the 1 hand and clinical and commercial activities on Campus on the other. — Bringing forward sustainable development, with particular emphasis on achieving site energy infrastructure including, where possible, renewable energy technologies, and in the expectation that development at the sites will achieve a minimum rating of BREEAM excellent. — Optimisation of the development capacity of the identified sites. The University and the Trust would also like to secure the potential to include within the scope of the study several key Trust sites, also around the front of the Campus. The Trust is currently developing its new clinical strategy, which it expects to publish in September/October 2016, and at that stage will be in a position to decide whether it would like these sites included.
