Tender description
Natural England requires a contractor to prepare a Management Plan setting out: a) A statement of significance. This should set out the monument’s archaeological and architectural importance and the justification for the management plan. This should include detailed documentary research from maps, documents, aerial photographs, management records, archaeological records and any other records as appropriate. As a minimum the Northumberland County Historic Environment Record should be consulted. b) A detailed condition survey the monument. This should include a description of the precise location of the monument, date the survey was made and the name of the surveyor, a statement describing the monument’s purpose, materials and date, plan, form, function and structural development sequence. It should also include a note on the monument’s relationship to its setting, local settlement and landscape. This should be illustrated by rectified photography of all elevations, annotated to indicate significant features including: the form and location of any features of historic significance, other significant structural detail and the form of any architectural detailing or decoration. Photos should be digital, and the consultants should consider the use of drones to survey higher elevations. c) A scheme of repair: identifying the work required in order to stabilise and conserve the monument, based upon a scale comprising: o Urgent works needed including works to repair structural defects which would cause public safety concerns; o Necessary works which are non-urgent but should be carried out within 5 years; o Desirable works which would improve the condition of the monument, preventing future conservation issues d) A structural engineers report (where appropriate) commenting on the feasibility of repair, highlighting good points as well as defects and remedial work required. e) Identify the location of, and use of the site by, any protected species which use
