World Service FM Transmitters

Tender description

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) World Service is the international broadcasting arm of the BBC, based at Bush House in London. World Service currently has around 150 FM relays that operate 24/7 and equipment for extension to that network is the subject of this Tender. In addition World Service occasionally purchases similar equipment for our partners. The BBC World Service is intending to award a Framework Agreement for supply of FM (Band 2) Transmitter systems at various power levels from 1kW to 10kW, primarily 1kW, 2kW, 3kW, 5kW and 10kW. The scope shall be limited to supply of equipment and shall exclude installation and commissioning. Some equipment will be provided by the BBC for integration into the transmitter systems by the successful Supplier. Details are included in the Invitation to Tender. It is expected that the BBC will order systems which when completed will be kept at the supplier for final testing and set up when a specific requirement arises. The supplier must therefore be able to • Produce and test FM transmitter systems • store completed systems • set up to the final operating parameters when requested • Carry out pre-shipping ‘soak’ tests • Ship to sites specified by the BBC The BBC's requirements reflect the arduous conditions encountered at our sites world-wide, the logistical difficulties faced when making repairs and the need to make systems as simple as possible to operate and repair with limited technical skills.
