North East Essex DEXA Scanning - Scope of Services The aim of the procurement is to introduce the provision of a patient focused DEXA service within a community setting for all patients registered with a North East Essex GP Practice. This will offer an equality of service provision for patients and encourage practices to confirm the diagnosis of osteoporosis by a DEXA scan and re-locate activity from a secondary care service if required. The service will include a local service with staff qualified to appropriate levels of skill and experience, using equipment which complies with the guidance set by the Royal College of Radiologists, connection to NHS image transfer solutions, the ability to integrate with the Choose and Book system, robust performance management systems and stringent levels of clinical governance. The care pathway being commissioned is pre-appointment communication with Patients, the investigation and a report being sent to the referrer which covers not only the description of the investigation and the findings, but also covers a brief recommendation on a proposed management plan for the Patient, meeting the clinical request of the referrer. Structured reporting will be encouraged to support local referrers in their options for further clinical management. The service will need to be fully quality assured, validated and supported by the local Commissioners. Please see attachment to this opportunity listing for further infomation.
