Tender description

The Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA), an agency within the Department of the Environment, aims to protect and conserve Northern Ireland’s natural and built environment, to control and regulate pollution and to promote wider appreciation of the environment and environmental practices. Better Regulation is a core priority for the EU and UK Government and is expected of all Government regulators. DOE is committed to delivering effective, proportionate regulation under a number of strategies, including the Northern Ireland Better Regulation Strategy and Northern Ireland Sustainable Development Strategy. NIEA has stated its approach and goals for delivering Better Regulation in the Agency’s position statement ‘Better Regulation for a Better Environment’, March 2008. It outlines how NIEA will develop a more effective and risk-based approach to regulation and greater protection for the environment. This will be delivered through support and guidance for businesses, streamlined permitting and effective, proportionate enforcement, co-ordinated by the Better Regulation Team (NIEA Strategy Unit) NIEA is committed to working closely with the business community to raise awareness of regulation and the benefits of compliance, providing more user-friendly, tailored advice and support to industry. This contract involves a programme of workshops which will offer NIEA and industry the opportunity to engage on a range of regulation-specific or sector-specific issues to raise awareness of regulation and promote good practice, thereby establishing a network of informed industry stakeholders, and meeting the needs of both the regulator and the regulated.
