Tender description

The design and development of HS2 is on-going, the railway is envisaged to utilise a high degree of automation and will be reliant on many computer systems to provide a reliable, safe and excellently run railway. This Contract is for a study resulting in a report to consider the types of systems that would be required, possible routes to procurement and the timescales of activities to achieve the final solution. Telematics covers information and diagnostic systems to operate a business and a railway and covering but not limited to the following areas: • Computer systems to run a railway companies • Staff rostering, competence, training • Maintenance and fault repair scheduling • Train resources and allocations (passenger & engineering) • Route and infrastructure system availability for use by trains • Condition monitoring of many systems and presentation of alarms to signallers and maintenance staff • Train service specification, timetable development through to implementation of on the day timetables including passenger and engineering train movements • Traffic management to optimise the train service in real time, provide automatic train operation information to the train and to call routes in the signalling system • Ability to play back incidents for investigations and lesson learnt purposes • Support for emergency management of companies and railway business • Ticketing, reservations and customer information • Links to other railway companies and their systems • Conformance to Interoperability Standards • Security systems As the successful supplier will be advising HS2 Ltd, potential suppliers should have provided advice on the deployment of Information Technology, communications or control systems to a Railway company or undertaken such a deployment.
