‘Connect’ services in Sunderland (for 17.9.2016) The procurement of the operation of ‘Registered Local Bus services’ in the Sunderland local authority area of the Tyne and Wear boundary with effect from 17.9.2016 on behalf of the ‘Scheme Partners’, (Nexus, Sunderland City Council and the University of Sunderland). It is anticipated that the subsequent contract will be for a term of 1 year, with an option of extending each contract for up to 1 year should this be necessary, and will provide a service which links the main points of interest in Sunderland city centre and an enhancement to the University of Sunderland inter-site transport. The contract will be tendered on the basis of operating a specified timetable and will be for the operation of 3 low-carbon Hybrid vehicles which will be supplied by the Sunderland City Council, however, any ‘spare’ vehicles necessary to be used when any of the ‘hybrid’ vehicles are not available will be provided by the successful contractor. These additional vehicles will be low floor, easy access, meeting Euro 5 engine emission standards and meeting the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Acts with a minimum capacity of 48 passengers.
