Acute Treatment Services - Chiltern Vale Locality

BCCG wishes to establish up to 10 sites offering community-based acute treatment services within the Chiltern Vale Locality of Bedfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group. The locality has a registered population of 78,293. There are ten GP member practices and patient flows for secondary and urgent care services are predominantly to the Luton and Dunstable NHS Trust. The aim is to provide patients with local access to high quality, effective and timely treatment for minor injuries that would otherwise have presented at an Accident & Emergency Department of a local hospital. To qualify for treatment under the Locality Acute Treatment Service patients must present within 48 hours of sustaining a minor injury. The service objectives are to: • Offer patients an appropriate alternative to hospital Accident and Emergency departments for minor injury. • Improve patient outcomes and patient experience by providing local and quicker access to care. • Provide care closer to the patient’s home. • Support the wider Urgent Care Programme by reducing pressures on A&E services. • Contribute to the delivery of the locality quality and productivity plans for reducing A&E attendance and expenditure.
