Active Ageing, Health and Wellbeing Service for Oxfordshire

Oxfordshire PCT seeks suitably qualified and experienced suppliers to develop and maintain a co-ordinated network of local activity to achieve the following aims: • Increased accessibility of appropriate and evidence based exercise provision and health & wellbeing advice for older people in Oxfordshire • Increased participation in regular physical activity by older people in Oxfordshire The service will have a number of functions including but not limited to: • Development of an ‘Active Ageing’ network of evidence based, community exercise classes, health walks, time limited/targeted exercise interventions and health & wellbeing education sessions available across Oxfordshire • Marketing & publicity of the network and use of social marketing techniques to engage more hard to reach groups in physical activity • Providing information and advice for any person who comes into contact with the service or network to help them understand more about ‘Active Ageing’ how it can help them, how they can get involved or volunteer and what services/classes are available in their local areas • Developing training, education and networking opportunities to enhance, increase and sustain an approved/audited network of trained exercise tutors, volunteers and health walk leaders • Developing peer support and making use of volunteering networks to encourage greater participation in physical activity, reduce drop off and enhance the reach and delivery of the network • Providing time limited funding to enable new classes or courses to be set up which address an unmet need, within the overriding principal that ALL classes should aim to be self sustaining in the long term • Providing data for performance monitoring such as is required by the PCT and to work with the PCT to support further evaluation of effectiveness.
