Tender description
The overarching aim of the National Clinical Audit of Psychosis (NCAP) is the collection, analysis and effective reporting of robust comparative data on the quality of care delivered to patients treated within secondary care mental health services. The Programme is expected to: 1. Consider from the outset the future local usability of the audit outputs, and plan all audit methodologies to maximise their potential to drive quality improvement for patients; 2. Identify from the outset the full range of audiences for the reports and other audit outputs, and tailor the outputs accordingly; 3. Achieve and maintain close alignment with relevant NICE national guidelines and quality standards throughout the audit, as appropriate; 4. Consider from the outset how the audit will be designed to maximise the quality and completeness of data captured and how the data quality will be assessed, enhanced and reported; and 5. Consider the value and feasibility of linking data at individual patient level to other relevant national datasets either from the outset or in the future, and plan for these linkages from the inception of the audit. The scope of this national clinical audit programme will include the following 3 work streams: — A continuous prospective core audit of key measures on the processes and outcomes of psychosis care delivered in secondary care services; — Starting from year 2, annual ‘spotlight’ case note audits of specific patient cohorts; and — A Scoping exercise to determine the feasibility of extending the core audit to patients with psychosis in forensic psychiatry services. The scope of this national clinical audit programme will exclude: — Young people receiving care from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS); — Collection of data from primary care settings; and — The development of new patient reported experience or outcome measures (PREMs/ PROMs). The successful provider will build on the experience of the National Audit of Schizophrenia (NAS) to provide a national clinical audit of psychosis focussing on NHS-funded care to adults aged 16 and over. Suitable providers will need to be able to demonstrate: — Effective and fully integrated clinical leadership; — The ability to engage actively with all relevant professional disciplines; — The ability to engage actively with patient and carer groups: experience of patient and public involvement; — Robust project management skills; — Methodological and statistical expertise and experience, to inform data collection, data cleaning, analysis and interpretation of the data; — A commitment to quality improvement; — Information security/management skills including understanding / experience of patient level data linkage; and — Sound knowledge of information governance and procedures for gaining permissions for data processing; — Capacity and experience to successfully deliver the above requirements; — Sound economic and financial standing.
