Care Home Services for Adults with Complex Needs

Health and social care commissioners in Sheffield are considering establishing a framework of providers, providing care in registered care homes, for people with complex needs. This includes both residential and nursing homes. The purpose of the framework would be to support commissioners to deliver the above aims. The CCG and SCC already contracts with local nursing homes for long-term, respite and interim care for people with needs who can be met under a standard specification. However, there are a small number of service-user’s whose complex needs exceed this specification. Commissioners believe there is a need for greater clarity over the care purchased for these service-users, the outcomes it achieves, relevant quality standards and its cost, including demonstrating best value. Commissioners are considering establishing a framework of providers, with whom it would contract to provide care for such service users in the following ‘cohorts’ of service-users: a) Learning Disability b) Autistic Spectrum Disorder c) Mental Health, excluding people with dementia d) Dementia Care; e) Physical Disability f) Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) with complex neurological needs; g) Motor Neurone Disease h) Older People with Functional Mental Illness
