Tender description
Northern Ireland Electricity Networks Limited (NIE Networks) is responsible for managing specific elements of electricity transmission and distribution within Northern Ireland. A significant aspect of this management process is protecting the built and natural environment that we operate within. We implement all of our responsibilities in line with our ISO14001 certified Environmental Management System (EMS). We are inviting tender submissions to service 2 distinct requirements of that EMS: a) Solid Waste Remediation Our EMS requires that we react to any instance of environmental damage in a manner that complies fully with legislative requirements, best practice techniques and ensures customer / stakeholder satisfaction. This could involve e.g. control and remediation of land or water pollution following oil spills caused by network faults, vehicle faults or vandalism. These can occur in NIE Networks' depots and substations, public carriageways and footpaths or on private lands e.g. agricultural, commercial or domestic properties. b) Liquid Waste Remediation / Cleaning We require contaminated fluid management services on a periodic / ad-hoc basis. This includes the need to empty / maintain our oil interceptors / bunds at several locations across Northern Ireland, occasional removal of oil contaminated water from substation cable basements / bunds and removal of oil contaminated water from carriageway / footpath excavations during certain emergency underground cable repairs. Additionally, cleaning work may be required to be completed after removal of oil contaminated water in any of the above situations or in other instances as directed by NIE Networks. The majority of the work associated with these 2 requirements occurs externally from restricted ‘live’ areas of NIE Networks substations. Works within ‘live’ areas will be under the ‘Personal Supervision’ of an NIE Networks Authorised Person. Where appropriate, and if considered necessary by NIE Networks, the successful Contractor may be required to obtain authorisation to work without ‘Personal Supervision’ from NIE Networks staff within ‘live’ areas. All contractors coming onto site will be expected to have D1H and D2H as a minimum requirement.
