Tender description

Kent County Council is seeking a suitable contractor to complete the following works: Rathmore Road Link is a new single-way carriageway link between Stone Street and Darnley Road within Gravesend Town centre. It moves the existing town centre 1 way system traffic from Clive Road onto the new link to the south of Gravesend Station. The scheme removes severance and integrates the Station and public transport facilities with town centre. The south side of the Station drop -off area is improved with other public real improvements to Clive Road and old Rathmore Road. The scheme complements earlier improvements to the Civic Centre area between Stone Street and Windmill Street. The scheme is supported by funding from the Kent Thameside Homes and Roads Programme and Local Growth Funding allocated to the South East Local Enterprise Partnership by the Department of Transport in July 2014. The key features include: — A new single carriageway link road between Stone Street and Darnley Road ( crossing an existing car park and requiring demolition of a terraced house) approximately 260m in length; — Right turn lane provision into an improved Station forecourt area. — Widening of Railway Place carriageway over Network Road structure. — Public realm improvements to the Station forecourt area, old Rathmore Road and Clive Road. — Traffic signal junctions of the Link with Stone Street and Darnley Road and at the Stone Street/Clive Road/Railway Place junction and other signal controlled or zebra crossing pedestrian/cycle crossings. — Demolition of No 13 Darnley Road and party wall works to new gable end to No 15 Darnley Road. — Re surfacing and remarking of residual retained carpark with some kerbing and drainage. — Acoustic fence approximately 225m in length. — Demolition and rebuild including use of recovered granite of existing retaining wall approximately 150m in length. — Diversion of major services.
