Clinical-waste collection services

Tender description

This contract is on behalf of the Health and Social Care Board (HSCB) in Northern Ireland. It will be for the provision of the collection, transportation, treatment and final disposal of clinical waste from Community Pharmacies in Northern Ireland. It is anticipated that this procurement process will lead to the award of a 3-year contract with an option to extend for a further 2 x 1-year periods. The anticipated commencement date of this Contract is January 2017. The contractor will be responsible for seeking and obtaining from relevant authorities any information which may be required for the necessary permit/license applications and will be required to adapt to changing circumstances arising from new practices and evolving policies and statutory legislation during the period of the contract. The contractor will be required to work to the relevant definitions and categories of waste in accordance with the EU Waste Framework Directive, The Controlled Waste Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2002 & The List of Wastes Regulations (NI) 2005. The contract will include the supply of approved containers for discarded sharps and medicines waste and the subsequent collection, transportation, treatment and disposal of this waste. There are currently over 500 Community Pharmacies in Northern Ireland and it is anticipated that the waste will be collected fortnightly, monthly or quarterly depending on the collection frequency required and a collection schedule will be developed for each Pharmacy.
