Pedestrian Wayfinding Commission for Central Morecambe

Tender description

Lancaster City Council invites companies to tender for this opportunity to supply elements towards a new wayfinding system for central Morecambe. This commission is part of the implementation of the Morecambe Area Action Plan (MAAP), adopted 2014. The MAAP identifies that whilst parts of central Morecambe evidence a strong spatial structure, as a whole pedestrians find it difficult to read. Pedestrian movement is quite constrained and footfall is not as high as it needs to be to support a strong and vibrant town centre. Implementing the MAAP involves many actions to improve key routes, spaces and connections between points of arrival, the town centre and the seafront and, including putting in place a new system for pedestrian wayfinding. Taken together, these changes should help make people feel more comfortable and confident to explore more of the town, reaping social and economic benefits.
